GKL Group was engaged by Townsville City Council as Superintendent and Project Manager for the Castle Hill Reservoir Tank Replacement, a design and construct project delivering critical water infrastructure upgrades to one of Townsville's most recognised landmarks. The project involved the removal and replacement of the existing reservoir tank, which had reached the end of its serviceable life. Works included construction of a new reservoir tank and associated foundation works, upgrades to water reticulation facilities, and construction of a new pump system, ensuring reliable water supply to the Castle Hill amenities block, drinking fountain, and irrigational sites.
A highlight of this project was the helicopter airlift used to position the new tank on site, with sections lifted in piece by piece to the summit of Castle Hill. Overseeing this kind of precision operation is a reminder of the breadth of experience GKL Group brings to complex, high-stakes civil projects. Given the project's prominent public location, careful planning and community communication were equally central to delivery, with temporary closures of Castle Hill Road and walking tracks managed safely and with minimal disruption. Our role as Superintendent and Project Manager placed us at the centre of project governance, overseeing design and construct obligations, maintaining quality standards, managing contractor performance, and ensuring the works were delivered in line with Council's requirements and community expectations. The project was completed on time and on budget, delivering resilient, long-term water infrastructure that continues to serve the Townsville community. Comments are closed.
