Resource Recovery Project

The Stuart Landfill Cells 4 and 5 Project is a major infrastructure initiative for Townsville City Council's Resource Recovery operations at the Stuart Landfill, located at 24 Vantassel Street, Stuart.

With the current landfill area, Cell 3B, expected to reach capacity within the coming year, Townsville City Council has undertaken the design and development of new landfill facilities to meet the region's future waste management needs.

GKL Group has been engaged to provide project management services across the initiation, procurement and construction phases of the project, which is valued at approximately $16 million. Our role also includes acting as the Superintendent's Representative on behalf of the client, giving Council consistent oversight and a single point of accountability throughout delivery. The new development will deliver approximately 50,000 m² of engineered landfill area and includes:

• Construction of new landfill Cells 4 and 5, including bulk earthworks, landfill liner installation and leachate collection systems.
• Construction of a permanent sealed access road.
• Delivery of new stormwater management infrastructure.
• Decommissioning of the existing Leachate Pond 2.
• Upgrade and augmentation of the existing leachate riser sump servicing Cell 2A.

 
This project represents another significant milestone for GKL Group in supporting the delivery of essential environmental and waste management infrastructure, contributing to sustainable growth and long-term resource recovery outcomes for the Townsville region.
