Sturt Street Slope Stabilisation

GKL Group was engaged by Townsville City Council to procure and manage a design and construct contract for the delivery of the Sturt Street Slope Stabilisation Project. This work formed part of the Council's ongoing maintenance program to protect community infrastructure and reduce the impact of future significant weather events on the city's road and parking network.

The Sturt Street cutting sits within the Townsville City Centre, where the stability of the slope directly affects adjacent road and parking infrastructure relied upon every day. Our role spanned procurement of the design and construct contract through to construction oversight and final delivery, ensuring the works met Council's quality, safety and program requirements at each stage.

Construction works included the removal of loose material from the slope, rock bolting, select shotcrete works and the installation of rock netting to secure the face against erosion and rockfall. Given the City Centre location, the project required careful coordination with Council and the community to manage access and minimise disruption to surrounding businesses, motorists and pedestrians throughout the works.

The Sturt Street Slope Stabilisation Project was completed without incident, ahead of budget and within the scheduled program, with minimal community disruption. This outcome reflects the disciplined procurement, stakeholder coordination and practical site management that GKL Group brings to every community infrastructure project.
